Spina Bifida is the most frequently diagnosed permanent disabling birth defect. It
is the failure of the spine to close
properly during the first month of pregnancy, affecting one out of every 1,000 newborns in the United
States. This
disability is also classified as a Neural Tube Defect (NTD) that
involves incomplete development of the brain, spinal cord and/or
protective coverings for these organs. Because of the paralysis

to the spinal cord, people born with Spina
Bifida may need surgeries and other extensive medical care. To achieve
independence, children with Spina
Bifida must
learn mobility skills by using crutches, braces, or wheelchairs. It is
crucial that parents, health care professionals, and teachers
encourage children to be independent and pursue activities that will
enable them to live a healthy and well-adjusted life. Let us help you
secure the future for your child with Special Needs. |
